Producer’s Notes:
In our olive grove, we produce our own Chianti Classico DOP extra virgin olive oil. Thanks to our passion, innovation, and commitment to quality, the oil was awarded Best DOP Oil in the Gambero Rosso Oli d’Italia guide in 2022.
The olive grove is carefully monitored by a team of experts throughout the year. Maintenance pruning, the careful use of treatments, and timely harvesting all ensure optimal results. The I Tattoli Estate & the Bini Smaghi Bellarmini Family:
Some olive oils have a story. This one has over 500 years of history.
The I Tattoli estate has been in the hands of the Bini Smaghi Bellarmini family since 1428, when the first olive groves were planted in the rolling hills of Tuscany near Badia a Passignano. Over the centuries the estate became part of the rich cultural life of the Renaissance, with connections to legendary figures such as Michelangelo, Raphael and Leonardo da Vinci.
Today the estate is guided by Cristina Bini Smaghi, who combines centuries of family tradition with modern, sustainable olive growing. The result is exceptional extra virgin olive oil, elegant, vibrant and full of character — recognised by experts and awarded Best DOP Olive Oil by the Gambero Rosso guide.
A rare Tuscan olive oil where history, craftsmanship and terroir meet in every drop.
ElOlivo Review:
This oil comes from an estate where Leonardo da Vinci himself was known to spend time. A perfect example of how olive oil connects history, land and people. Just knowing he once walked among I Tattoli’s estate olive groves makes this oil feel even more special than it already is.
This is another true Tuscan oil from the Chianti Classico region. We all know the other amazing “fruit juice” that comes from here - wine - but this one is just as delicious.
It’s a beautifully complex oil with aromas of wild artichoke, lettuce, green apple and a hint of mint. On the palate it reveals its full character with flavours of artichoke, green apple and notes of thistle. It has a lovely bitterness and a distinctive peppery finish, all perfectly balanced.
The price is a bit higher than most of our oils, but considering the history of the I Tattoli estate and the Bini Smaghi family, we think it’s absolutely worth trying at least once.
For us, this is more than just olive oil.
