Producer's notes:

Alkaios Virgin Olive Oil is a unique olive oil produced exclusively from olives meticulously harvested in the mountainous and arid regions of Mytilene, Lesvos.

This golden-yellow olive oil has a mild, light flavour and is ideal for cooking.

Varietal composition: 20% Kolovi and 80% Adramytini.

Kolovi variety:

Native to the Greek island of Lesvos, Kolovi produces beautifully balanced extra virgin olive oils with fresh herbal aromas, notes of green almond and tomato leaf, and a gentle peppery finish. This variety is naturally known for its higher polyphenol content, while remaining elegant, smooth and well balanced.

Adramytini variety:

Native to the Greek island of Lesvos, Adramytini is one of Greece's oldest olive varieties. It produces smooth, delicate extra virgin olive oils with mild fruitiness, subtle herbal notes and a gentle, well-balanced finish. Loved for its approachable character, it's an excellent choice for everyday enjoyment.

About Papadellis:

For over 40 years, Papadellis has been producing extra virgin olive oil on the beautiful Greek island of Lesvos. What began as a family business has grown into one of the island's leading olive oil producers, while staying true to its roots.

Today, the company is still family-owned and run by two brothers, with Babis Papadellis playing an active role in the day-to-day running of the business. Together with a close-knit team of around 15 people, they look after everything from the olive groves and mill to bottling and quality control. During the harvest, the team grows to around 30–40 people as seasonal workers join to help bring in the olives.

The family cares for around 4,000 of their own olive trees and also works closely with local growers across Lesvos, helping showcase the unique character of the island's olive oil.

With their own olive groves, modern olive mill and bottling facilities, Papadellis oversees every step of the journey - from tree to bottle - ensuring every drop reflects the quality and tradition of Lesvos.

 ElOlivo review:

As you know by now, we're all about quality, flavour and extra virgin olive oil. However, we also have a soft spot for Greek virgin olive oil when it comes to everyday cooking. Whether you're making a hearty stew, sautéing vegetables or frying chips, Papadellis Virgin Olive Oil is just the right oil for the job.

In terms of flavour, don't expect too much - and that's perfectly okay. It has gentle aromas of ripe olives and dried fruit. On the palate, you'll find ripe olive flavours with just a touch of pepperiness and virtually no bitterness. We wouldn't expect anything more from a virgin olive oil. Yet somehow, it reminds us of holidays spent in Greece, where olive oil is simply part of everyday life.

This oil isn't about exceptional flavour; it's about practicality. We recommend it for cooking, and only for cooking. It's affordable, dependable and made from olives - the way a good cooking oil should be. And honestly, chips just taste better when they're fried in olive oil.

So, let's cook something!
