Voliotis Family Virgin Olive Oil (5L CAN) - 100% Amfissas - Unfiltered

The production of this oil takes place between October and January, and its primary usage is in restaurants and other eateries for meal preparation and salads. It holds a significant position as one of the key ingredients in the Mediterranean diet, renowned for its health benefits owing to its monounsaturated fat and antioxidant content. With its vibrant yellow color and delightful flavor, this oil distinguishes itself as a uniquely sweet and aromatic variety, greatly satisfying consumers.

Amfissas variety:

Amfissas, or Amfissa olives, are a variety of olives that are primarily cultivated in the region of Amfissa, Greece. Amfissas are renowned for their rich, fruity flavour and meaty texture. Amfissas are often used for both table olives and olive oil production. When harvested at the green stage, they are commonly processed into table olives. The oil extracted from Amfissas olives exudes a captivating aroma that is reminiscent of fresh green grass, ripe tomatoes, and a subtle peppery undertone, creating a harmonious blend of fruity and herbal fragrances with a mild, pleasant bitterness.

About Voliotis Family:

Back in 1969, the Voliotis Family embarked on an exciting venture by opening their very first olive mill in the charming village of Agios Vlasios, Pelion, Greece. Their story is nothing short of a classic family tale, where every drop of olive oil is lovingly crafted with immense care and a deep respect for nature. In 1981, they relocated their olive oil mill to a brand new facility in Ano Lechonia, a move that allowed them to have complete control over the entire olive oil production process, from the moment the olives are gathered to the final bottling stage. Since then, the Voliotis Family's remarkable dedication to quality has earned them international acclaim, all while showcasing their genuine commitment to preserving and cherishing the local environment. We wholeheartedly believe that the Voliotis Family represents sustainability at its finest as a business model, standing as a shining inspiration for both our own generation and those yet to come.

About Unfiltered Olive Oil:

Unfiltered olive oil refers to a type of olive oil that has not undergone the filtration process, which is commonly used to remove impurities and sediment from the oil. Instead, it is produced by simply pressing the olives and allowing the oil to settle naturally.

One of the main characteristics of unfiltered olive oil is its cloudy appearance. Since it is not filtered, the oil retains tiny particles such as olive pulp and sediment, giving it a slightly opaque or murky appearance. This cloudiness is often considered a sign of authenticity and a more traditional production method.

Unfiltered olive oil also tends to have a more robust and intense flavor compared to filtered oils. It can exhibit stronger fruity, grassy, and peppery notes, which can vary depending on the olive variety and the region where it is produced. Some people appreciate the richer taste and enhanced complexity that unfiltered olive oil offers.

It's worth noting that unfiltered olive oil may have a shorter shelf life compared to filtered oils, as the sediment present in the oil can lead to faster oxidation. Therefore, it is advisable to store unfiltered olive oil properly and consume it within a reasonable time frame.

While unfiltered olive oil can be an excellent choice for those seeking a more authentic and intense olive oil experience, personal preferences vary. Some individuals may prefer the clarity and milder flavor of filtered olive oils. Ultimately, the choice between filtered and unfiltered olive oil comes down to personal taste and culinary preferences.

ElOlivo Review:

First, we have something to confess: we're not really big fans of unfiltered olive oil, especially when it's a virgin oil. But there's an exception we had to make because we simply adore this oil. We were like, "Let's give it a try because it's a great way to learn more about different oils and stay open-minded," which is one of our beliefs when it comes to tasting. And guess what? We tasted it and we absolutely loved it! So here we are, recommending it to you because it tastes amazing. This oil has delightful aromas of grass and ripe olives that we found truly enjoyable. When you try it, you'll also notice the flavours of black olives with a hint of pungency and a touch of bitterness. Just a friendly note: this oil is NOT EXTRA VIRGIN, but it still has its own unique qualities. It may not have the highest quality compared to extra virgin olive oil, but we use it in our kitchen because we genuinely enjoy its taste. It's a versatile oil that you can use every day, whether for dressing your salads or for frying. We really hope you'll love it as much as we do. Enjoy!
