Voliotis Family Virgin Olive Oil (5L CAN) - 100% Amfissas - Unfiltered

This oil is produced between October and January and is mainly used for cooking and salads, especially in restaurants and other eateries. It plays an important role in the Mediterranean diet, known for its health benefits thanks to its monounsaturated fats and antioxidants. With its vibrant yellow color and lovely, slightly sweet and aromatic flavor, this oil really stands out and is sure to delight consumers.

Amfissas variety:

Amfissas, or Amfissa olives, come from the Amfissa region of Greece and are loved for their rich, fruity flavor and meaty texture. They’re great both as table olives and for making olive oil. When picked green, they’re usually prepared as delicious table olives. The oil from Amfissa olives has a wonderful aroma with hints of fresh green grass, ripe tomatoes, and a gentle peppery touch, creating a lovely mix of fruity and herbal notes with a mild, pleasant bitterness.

About Voliotis Family:

Back in 1969, the Voliotis family started an exciting journey by opening their first olive mill in the charming village of Agios Vlasios, Pelion, Greece. It’s a true family story, where every drop of olive oil is made with care and a deep respect for nature. In 1981, they moved their mill to a new facility in Ano Lechonia, which allowed them to take full control of the entire production process — from harvesting the olives to bottling the oil. Since then, the Voliotis family’s dedication to quality has earned them international recognition, all while staying true to their commitment to protect and cherish the local environment. We truly believe the Voliotis family is a beautiful example of sustainability in action and a real inspiration for our generation and the ones to come.

About Unfiltered Olive Oil:

Unfiltered olive oil refers to a type of olive oil that has not undergone the filtration process, which is commonly used to remove impurities and sediment from the oil. Instead, it is produced by simply pressing the olives and allowing the oil to settle naturally.

One of the main characteristics of unfiltered olive oil is its cloudy appearance. Since it is not filtered, the oil retains tiny particles such as olive pulp and sediment, giving it a slightly opaque or murky appearance. This cloudiness is often considered a sign of authenticity and a more traditional production method.

Unfiltered olive oil also tends to have a more robust and intense flavor compared to filtered oils. It can exhibit stronger fruity, grassy, and peppery notes, which can vary depending on the olive variety and the region where it is produced. Some people appreciate the richer taste and enhanced complexity that unfiltered olive oil offers.

It's worth noting that unfiltered olive oil may have a shorter shelf life compared to filtered oils, as the sediment present in the oil can lead to faster oxidation. Therefore, it is advisable to store unfiltered olive oil properly and consume it within a reasonable time frame.

While unfiltered olive oil can be an excellent choice for those seeking a more authentic and intense olive oil experience, personal preferences vary. Some individuals may prefer the clarity and milder flavor of filtered olive oils. Ultimately, the choice between filtered and unfiltered olive oil comes down to personal taste and culinary preferences.

ElOlivo Review:

We have to admit something upfront: we’re usually not big fans of unfiltered olive oil, especially when it’s virgin rather than extra virgin. But this one completely won us over! We thought, “Why not give it a try? It’s a great way to explore different oils and keep an open mind” — something we truly believe in when it comes to tasting. And honestly? We were pleasantly surprised — we absolutely loved it!

That’s why we’re so happy to recommend it to you. It has lovely aromas of fresh grass and ripe olives that we really enjoyed. When you taste it, you’ll notice the flavors of black olives, with just a hint of spiciness and gentle bitterness.

Just a friendly heads-up: this is not extra virgin olive oil, so it’s not the top-tier quality you might expect from an EVOO — but it has its own charm. We use it in our own kitchen simply because we love how it tastes. It’s a versatile, everyday oil that’s great for anything from salads to cooking.

We really hope you’ll enjoy it as much as we do. Happy cooking!
